Well, what a dramatic MotoGP weekend in Texas! We’ve got a new Championship leader, and a lot to think about going to Qatar next time out. But before then, it’s weekend review time!
Here’s a reminder of the categories – Rider of the Weekend (not necessarily the rider who left the weekend with the most points, but somebody who really impressed), Most Improved (either throughout the course of the weekend, from one weekend to another, or perhaps over a longer period of time), Best Overtake (this one feels obvious), Head-in-Hands Moment (a moment from either the Sprint or the Sunday race that left me shouting “NO!” at the screen), and Best in Show (the overall best rider from the weekend).
Rider of the Weekend: Do I get too swept up in riders’ displays of emotions? Potentially… but it’s hard to not see Fabio Di Giannantonio as my rider of the weekend. He hasn’t necessarily had the best start to the 2025 MotoGP season, especially with his teammate Franky Morbidelli proving to be tough competition. So seeing Diggia qualify 2nd on the grid, then finishing 4th in the Sprint and achieving a podium in Sunday’s race felt pretty great.
Most Improved: Although he’s known for his strong performances in tricky conditions, I still think Jack Miller is deserving of this accolade based on this weekend’s performance.
Best Overtake: Pecco Bagnaia’s pass on Alex Marquez during Sunday’s race is my choice – a smooth overtake followed by sharp braking.
Head-in-Hands Moment: There are many lessons a rookie has to learn during their first MotoGP season. One of those lessons is that sometimes, it’s better to finish in a good position than DNF whilst trying to finish even higher up. Fermin Aldeguer’s crash during the Sunday race will likely be a moment in his MotoGP career that he’ll never forget – a Top 5 finish was very likely, but he was pushing too hard.
Best in Show: Consistent finishes across the weekend, and now leading the Championship, Best in Show for me this weekend is Alex Marquez.
